Although this piece is on the small side, it is still impactful. There is both an other-worldly quality about it, and yet, an oddly familiar aspect that is hard to articulate. My goal was to explore ugly, or contrasting, color combinations that at first were not as pleasing as one would normally be drawn to immediately. It’s a human oddity, that of finding less striking individuals attractive over time, rather than all at once and losing interest in the predictability more quickly. In my experience, the more interesting the face, the longer it will take to grow on you, and the longer it will appear pleasing over time. “Face” is an illustration of this human expression. It is one of my favorite pieces, as it continues to intrigue my sense of curiosity over time.
