Throughout my life, I’ve had the opportunity to hike to different ancient American pictograph and petroglyph sites, most recently in Southern Utah and Chaco Canyon. At these sacred locations, time stands still and for a brief moment your able to witness our human past as if it were present. Like many before me, I have the urge when I’m standing there to put my hand on the hand of the ancient past. There is an innate desire to connect with our human counterparts from another time. To preserve the site, I resist the impulse to touch the ancient art. Yet, I feel the need to express the emotions I have after encountering the past, through my own art. These three small mixed media pieces are an emotional way for me to touch the hand reaching out from the dust.
