Sacred Corn

$145.00

Acrylic paint on paper

Measures: 9 × 12 inches, portrait
Signed and stamped with Thalia’s signature red seal
Sold unframed

When I was a child, we had a large garden. One year the corn was literally coming out of our ears. We ate corn for dinner every night and I got absolutely sick of it. But I’ll never forget the height and breadth of the many corn stalks and the beautiful yellow ears of perfectly formed rows of kernels on each cob.

There is an inexplicable beauty found in the sacred geometry of the plant world, and corn as a humble, staple plant is, to those who rely on its harvest, a kind of divine offering providing a variety of important food-groups that bring comfort and security to the lives of those who plant it. This piece is both a memory and a tribute to sacred corn—our sustenance.
