Every piece in this original art series is a whimsical and intuitive expression of hiding places from the storms of life, particularly in childhood, some physical and others emotional. The colors, shapes and textures were combined to offer healing validation on both a physical and emotional level; a balm of peace and quiet to wrap oneself in.
“Standing Up For Myself,” one of the more difficult lessons I’ve learned. I could always stand up for others. But I struggled giving myself that gift. I love how the caricature in this piece isn’t imposing. They are childlike. There is vulnerability there, but despite the fear or anxiousness, they are standing, and not just standing, but resolutely so. Alone, but not lonely. Strong, but not impervious. It’s the moment one faces the fear of rejection, pain, or possible annihilation, yet they stand, ready to face the storm because being true to oneself has become more important than protecting oneself.
